Hungary is one of those European countries that still remain underrated. Yet it’s a land full of fascinating history, strong cultural identity, and cuisine that surprises even the most experienced food lovers. Nowhere else will you taste goulash like in Hungary, relax in beautiful Art Nouveau thermal baths, or explore a city that has connected East and West for centuries.
Budapest, the capital of Hungary, is a city full of contrasts – it mixes monumental architecture with the elegance of the 19th century, modern design with ruin bars, and luxury hotels with wild green areas. Here, you’ll find places that are not only worth visiting but will stay in your memory for a long time. Here are three of them – selected by Findia app Travel Creators: @blueagnesu, @geomartka and @shetakesontheglobe
1. A Fairytale View – Fisherman’s Bastion
This place looks like something straight out of a fantasy film. In fact, the Fisherman’s Bastion was built at the end of the 19th century as part of the celebrations of Hungary’s 1000th anniversary. Its seven slim towers represent the seven ancient Hungarian tribes that settled in the Carpathian Basin over a thousand years ago.
Despite the name, this spot never had a military purpose – it was designed to be a viewpoint and a decorative element next to Matthias Church. Today, it serves this role perfectly, offering one of the best views of the Parliament Building, the Danube River, and the Chain Bridge. It’s especially beautiful early in the morning or at sunset – when the city skyline turns magical.
2. Slides, Spas, and Tropical Fun – Aquaworld
Budapest is famous for its thermal baths, but not everyone knows it’s also home to one of the largest indoor waterparks in Europe – Aquaworld. It’s a perfect spot not only for families with children but for anyone looking to relax and have some fun.
The complex offers 11 water slides (including Kamikaze and Black Hole), 15 pools, an adult-only sauna world, and even a pool designed like a Mayan temple. In winter, Aquaworld is a warm escape from the cold; in summer, it’s a great alternative to crowded city pools. And if you want to stay longer – there’s also a hotel and wellness center on-site. This place proves that Budapest can surprise you beyond its historic heart.
3. The Best Viewpoint in Town – Gellért Hill
Rising 235 meters above the Danube, Gellért Hill is one of the most iconic Spots in Budapest. It’s named after Bishop Gellért, who – according to legend – was thrown off the hill in a barrel by pagan rebels in the 11th century. Today, it offers something much more peaceful – an incredible panoramic view of the city.
At the top, you’ll find the Citadel fortress and the impressive Liberty Statue. From here, you can see the Parliament, Elizabeth Bridge, Buda Castle, and the rooftops of Pest. The walk up may take some effort, but the reward is the best view of Budapest. Try to visit around sunset – the golden light makes the city look even more beautiful.
And That’s Just the Beginning…
Fisherman’s Bastion, Aquaworld, and Gellért Hill are just a few of the must-see places in Budapest. Don’t miss the chance to see the iconic Parliament Building reflecting in the Danube at night, relax in the famous Gellért Baths, or walk across the historic Chain Bridge.
