Poznan is not just about the famous billy goats at the Town Hall, Stary Browar shopping center, or the Cathedral. It’s also a city full of unique, lesser-known Spots. Want to know more? Check out the TOP 7 Hot Spots in Poznan
1. The Unfinished Hotel
Poznan is known for frequent renovations, which… often drag on longer than planned. The city also sees many investments aimed at enhancing its appeal. In the heart of Poznań, near the Kaponiera Roundabout, lies a symbol of unfinished projects—a site where the Qubus Hotel was supposed to be built. The plan included constructing a modern facility with 122 rooms, conference halls, and a restaurant. Unfortunately, the investment never came to fruition. Today, this area, with remnants of the original plans, serves as an urban curiosity that illustrates how quickly the city’s visions can change.
2. A place known from the music video – The Mieloch Mausoleum
This Spot became famous thanks to a music video. The video for the well-known song “Sacrum” by Poznan-based rapper Mezo and Kasia Wilk was filmed here. The Mieloch Mausoleum is the resting place for members of the Mieloch family, located on White Mountain. This monumental tomb was built over 100 years ago and holds the remains of renowned gardener Andrzej Mieloch and his family. Legend has it that the Mieloch family cultivated a truly unique black rose… The mausoleum itself is a stunning architectural masterpiece.
3. St. Francis Seraphic Church
St. Francis Seraphic Church, built over 300 years ago, is one of the most charming religious sites in Poznań. Its interior is rich with ornate details and beautiful frescoes. The church also holds a special record—it hosts the largest nativity scene in Europe. Every year, the Franciscans add new elements, making the nativity scene a captivating attraction for visitors each time.
4. Fort V
Poznan is full of forts. In the days when Poland was wiped off the map, Poznań became a fortress city. One of the more fascinating structures from this period is Fort V. It was one of the first forts in Poznań. During World War II, it served as both a prison and a hospital. The fort has survived to this day, despite plans to demolish it during the Communist era to make way for a ring road. Instead, it remains a living museum of history.
5. Wilda District
Wilda is one of Poznan’s oldest districts, full of contrasts and history. Once home to the modern Wilda Cinema, which could seat 750 people, the cinema has since been replaced by a discount store, but its neon sign still evokes memories of the past. Walking through Wilda, you can feel the authentic atmosphere of Poznań, with its small shops, cafes, and historic buildings. Contrary to past opinions, it’s not dangerous here.
6. Milan Kwiatkowski Square
Milan Kwiatkowski Square, located in the Piastowskie housing estate, is a green oasis amidst the concrete blocks. At the center of the square stands a charming fountain, decorated with unique materials—a colorful stained glass mosaic. All of this is set against the backdrop of the Piastowskie Estate, which was the first housing estate built in the Poznan district of Rataje. It’s here that you can experience the spirit of the city.
7. The King Among Roses at the Castle
On the Rose Courtyard at the Imperial Castle, near the Lion Fountain, you’ll find one of Poznan’s most intriguing sculptures—a lion with its tongue sticking out. This intricately designed sculpture is part of the fountain, and its peculiar detail is no accident—it points in a certain direction… Time to find out which one.
