The First Travel App of Its Kind in the World

11 października 2024

8 min

In a world where the number of influencers and bloggers is constantly growing, online creators often struggle to reach a wider audience. Their posts and articles remain visible for just a few days before they get lost in the sea of content on the internet. Thanks to the Findia app, their content no longer fades away.

What is Findia?

Findia is a Map of Hot Spots, a tool for promoting travel bloggers and influencers. Through the app, they can position their travel content on the map, allowing users to follow in the footsteps of Travel Creators, discover hidden gems, and even find great places to eat.

Findia or getFindia?

Both names are used interchangeably—”Findia” refers to the product in general, while “getFindia” refers to the app itself. You can find the app in the Google Play and App Store under both “Findia” and “getFindia.” The reasoning behind this is that startups often use available domain names at reasonable prices, just like how TheFacebook.com or UberCab.com started out. Findia is a free app and doesn’t feature any ads. Currently, it’s a non-profit organization. The cost of running servers and maintaining the Findia team is significant, which is why purchasing the domain Findia.com is not feasible for the owners at this time.

What is a Spot and What Does It Include?

Using the Findia app means discovering Hot Spots from all corners of the world. A Spot is a specific point on the map, promoted with a Creator Link. Both new and older content is valuable—it often took creators a lot of time to produce high-quality content that has since become buried in the depths of the internet. Findia helps bring that content back into the spotlight.

Adding a Spot takes less than a minute. Users can also create private Spots to share with a select group, offering a personal touch for users who want to share something special with their closest friends. Both the Creator’s profile and each Spot can easily be shared with others.

Each Spot consists of:

  • A photo (required)
  • Location (required)
  • Title (required)
  • Introducing link (required)
  • Bonus (optional)
  • Bonus link (optional)
  • Quiz (optional)

Improvements and Communication

The process of adding Spots has been significantly streamlined. Creators can now add Spots in Findia directly from Instagram posts, reducing the time it takes to promote their content in the app to just a few seconds.

The Findia team regularly communicates with Travel Creators. At least once a week—every Thursday—they engage with creators through a dedicated Instagram tool to discuss feedback and potential improvements. This open communication has already led to many new features and further optimizations are in the works. While time constraints, typical for startups, can delay certain updates, the constant influx of thousands of new users motivates the team to keep making the app even better.

Why Only a Cropped Photo?

On social media or in travel guides, photos are often heavily edited (captured during the “golden hour,” in perfect weather, enhanced in Photoshop). Users may arrive at a location and feel disappointed when the reality doesn’t match the polished images they saw online. Findia’s cropped photo feature offers a more authentic way to discover Spots recommended by influencers, creating a more genuine experience. The app also pulls location data automatically from the photo’s geotag.

Introducing Link

This is the most important part of a Spot in Findia. The Creator’s link allows users to learn more about the spot before they even get there, helping them plan a walk or a longer journey. Through this link, bloggers and influencers can reach new audiences, giving older content a “second life.” The introducing link leads to a specific blog post, Instagram or Facebook post, YouTube video, or TikTok clip.

There’s also an optional bonus link, which provides users with additional content once they’ve physically arrived at the spot.

Bonus

The bonus is revealed to the user after they physically visit the spot (based on steps, time, and points tracked). The bonus includes:

  • A full photo of the Creator
  • A fun fact, limited to 350 characters
  • An additional link from the Creator (if no additional link is provided, the introducing link will be repeated)

The bonus allows users to learn something new without having to wade through lengthy text. Creators can even use AI assistance to write the bonus if they wish. The bonus doesn’t have to be strictly related to the Spot itself. For example, an interesting fact about graffiti as an art form could be just as engaging as one about a specific piece of street art.

Although bonuses aren’t mandatory, they’re definitely worth the effort. Spots with a unique fun fact are promoted more within Findia. They make it to the list of Recommended Spots, which are the first ones shown to the user upon opening the app. These fun fact-packed Spots also get their own promotional videos featuring the Travel Creator, giving them even more visibility. This additional promotion is entirely free, courtesy of the Findia team.

But the key point is this: a well-chosen fun fact helps the Travel Creator stay top of mind for their audience.

It’s also important to be mindful of mistakes that prevent certain bonuses from catching the audience’s attention:

  • Promoting the place itself: The user is already there, so saying it’s worth a visit doesn’t add any value.
  • Describing the views: The user is already at the spot, so saying it’s “beautiful” or that there are “picturesque boats” doesn’t provide new information.
  • Focusing on technical descriptions: If the Travel Creator’s content doesn’t specialize in technical details, then the bonuses shouldn’t either. Copy-pasting from Wikipedia is just… copy-pasting from Wikipedia. Avoid too many numbers, exact dates, and lots of names – it’s hard for users to remember these things during a walk or trip.

Quiz

A Travel Creator can also leave a quiz for users who reach the Spot. For instance, they might ask something that can be found in the content linked to the Creator Link. A quiz can have up to 3 questions with 4 answer options at each Spot. Each correct answer earns the user extra points, which will soon become very valuable…

Panel as an alternative

For those who prefer adding their Spots via a search engine or editing them, we’ve also prepared a user-friendly Panel. Logging in and adding Spots works just like in the mobile app. Link to Panel

Why does it take time to verify a Spot?

All Spots added to the map are manually verified. This allows the Findia team to ensure that all required elements for each Spot have been correctly entered. In case of any doubts, the Findia team contacts the Travel Creator directly. However, nobody is infallible, so feedback from any user who notices a small mistake is greatly appreciated. Every report is reviewed.

Verification of a Spot and its publication usually takes one business day. Exceptions occur during special situations when a record number of Spots is added to Findia.

How does Findia promote Travel Creators?

In addition to the Creator Link attached to every Spot, there are other ways to promote your content. The Findia team prepares promotional material for Spots that stand out thanks to a unique fun fact.

Moreover, if a Travel Creator is interested in co-creating shared content, Findia invites them to reach out. Just send a private message, and we’ll work with the material you provide for the video. The Findia team handles all the editing and production – absolutely free.

Findia also produces series of videos featuring multiple Travel Creators. This allows influencers to cross-promote and share their reach.

  • You can highlight your content twice (two links) within one Spot.
  • It’s a real opportunity to establish paid collaborations with other entities.
  • Interested Travel Creators are invited to co-create shared content.
  • Travel Creators are promoted on social media and at travel events.
  • Travel Creators are partners in conversation; the Findia team frequently seeks their feedback on various matters.
  • Users can see promoted materials when they are nearby or when they’re planning a visit to the Spot.
  • Findia is the platform that gathers the largest number of travel and culinary influencers in Poland.
  • Findia will soon expand internationally, giving Travel Creators a chance to reach a global audience.
